DR DENNIS MAURO
If you have ever been to the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, you’ll understand why Dr. Dennis Mauro loves it so much! Growing up in Oakmont, a small suburb of Pittsburgh, he became an avid sports fan at an early age. Oakmont Country Club, which has hosted the U.S. Open more times ever than any other country club provided an opportunity for Dennis to learn all about golf…as a caddy. He caddied there until college and this relationship at the country club allowed him to attend Penn State University on a full academic scholarship! One could actually say that Dr. Mauro "fought" his way through college, since he was a medium to light-heavyweight amateur boxer with a local gym! He was also a member of the PSU Boxing Club. Academically speaking, there was not much of a fight though, since he made the Dean’s list in nearly every semester. While in college, he played “nearly every sport” on intramural teams with his fraternity: football, soccer – you name it, he’s probably played it! When he completed his undergraduate degree [major in science and minor in business] he was in great shape both academically and physically! After college it was back home to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Pittsburgh. His biggest honor there was being elected to be the Northeast Regional Representative for the American Dental Education Association by his classmates. In that position, he kept in touch with other dental schools in the northeast region, compared the programs they had and was actually a voting member of the ADA. “A smile is always the first thing I noticed about anyone, so [orthodontics] was the natural way to go,” he shared. He earned his Certificate of Orthodontics at Jacksonville University, where we managed to find him to join our team! An active member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the American Dental Association, Dr. Mauro is a lifelong student of his specialty. Incidentally, he never had braces, so his big, broad smile is a natural blessing! He loves interacting with his patients, providing them with excellent care and creating beautiful smiles. You can be sure that he will be rooting for the Steelers to win the Super Bowl and the Penguins to take the Stanley Cup. Along the way he’ll be playing a little golf and keeping in shape [in the gym.] Godfather I & II are his favorite movies, but his favorite thing to do is spend time with his beautiful wife, Erin, and their precious daughter, Ava! | |||
